We love to collect and discover folded games and toys new and old. We wish to share this rich repertoire through playable exhibitions, workshops and combined activities in schools, origami conventions and other events.
Spikey Origami Games have a balance between new games created by modern origami authors and traditional games from the folding tradition of many different countries.
The project includes games for all ages: some are for children from about 4 years old, others for adults. All enjoyable with or without experience in origami.
The variety of the games allows working in many aspects: motor skills (target, blow, dexterity, agility), understanding of geometry, logic and spatial thinking (puzzles, sudoku, tangram), strategy, using the senses (sigh, hearing, smell, touch), memory, performance (storytelling, puppets, costumes)…
We wish to spread the pedagogical value of folding and to approach origami in an amusing way! Origami is great activity in many senses, and can be related to many different didactic themes or areas. Paper folding it’s also great tool for STEAM projects and for its versatility can be used in many inclusion projects. To learn & have fun is the best combination!
Along the years we created and developed some games to offer an enjoyable approach to the learning of origami skills, always with a playful component.
The Spikey Origami Games project started in 2018 when two good friends and origami enthusiasts, Anja Drews and Coral Romà, joined our interest for folded games and toys.
Spikey Games desires a good future for our
planet. Folding your games DIY with paper is more ecological than it would be with many other materials. Folding them with waste paper can be also a upcycling activity!
(Ask about this possibility for your Spikey Games workshops!)
